What you need to rent a car in Karama

Karama has a large share of new residents and visiting family, so both cases are routine for us.

UAE residents

•      Valid UAE driving licence.

•      Emirates ID, front and back.

•      Passport copy with the residence visa page.

•      Debit or credit card in your own name for the AED 1,500 deposit.

Tourists and visitors

•      Passport with a valid entry stamp or visit visa.

•      Home country licence, plus an International Driving Permit unless your licence is from the GCC, UK, most EU countries, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan or South Africa.

Minimum age is 21 for economy cars and 25 for the SUV and MPV. Additional drivers cost AED 100 each and must be named on the contract — an unnamed driver voids the insurance completely, which is the single most expensive mistake renters make in Dubai.

Parking and driving in Karama — what to expect

•      Almost all street parking in Karama is RTA paid zone, typically 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, free on Sunday and public holidays. Pay by the mPay app or SMS to 7275 rather than hunting for a machine.

•      Residents can apply for an RTA residential parking permit for their own street using a tenancy contract — worth doing on a monthly rental, and we will provide the Mulkiya copy you need for the application.

•      Karama has no Salik gate inside it, but Al Garhoud, Al Maktoum and Financial Centre gates surround it at AED 4 per crossing, billed to you at cost.

•      Al Karama, ADCB and BurJuman metro stations are all within the district, so a rental plus the occasional metro trip covers most journeys without paying airport-run taxi rates.

•      Fines are charged at cost plus an AED 50 administration fee, and we always send you the RTA reference so you can verify the fine yourself.
